๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Spicheren Heights and Wotan Bunker

I’m taking part in the guided tour of the Spicheren Heights site from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the border between France and Germany, organized by a passionate guide and the Forbach Tourist Office.
One of the first battles of the Franco-Prussian War took place here on August 6, 1870, as well as bombing raids during World War II.
We discover the Great Cross of Spicheren, a monument to the 70th US Division (the Trailblazers), and numerous French and German (Prussian) graves and historical monuments.

Here you’ll find remnants of the French-Prussian War of 1870, as well as World War II.
Numerous memorials of French, German, and Prussian soldiers are located in the Spicheren Forest, along with military cemeteries and numerous bunkers.

The American M-24 Chaffee tank, which participated in the Liberation of France in 1945 (70th US Division, the Trailblazers), stands on the edge of the Giffertwald forest in Spicheren, next to the Wotan Bunker. https://www.instagram.com/p/DP_393KjAS1/

Exceptionally open today, we’re going to visit Bunker Wotan.
It’s one of the 76 structures of the Siegfried Line (Westwall), a vast system of German fortifications built before World War II to defend the border against France.
