On this Wednesday, April 12, 2023, we’re heading from Moselle to Milan to watch the Champions League quarterfinal, AC Milan versus SSC Napoli.
Upon arrival in Italy, we’ll make a mandatory stop for a brioche and a cappuccino at the motorway service station near Como.
We arrive at our Hotel Abacus in Sesto San Giovanni, close to Milan and ideally located for reaching the Milan Duomo by metro.
The room decor is, well, quite special!
Lunch at Restaurant San Mina, which offers delicious Lemon Octopus (Polpo con patate) and Pizzas.
Beautiful poster seen in the San Babila district of Milan, ready for tonight’s match!
An impressive and unusual place, we visit a church that houses an ossuary in the chapel decorated with human skulls and bones, right in the heart of Milan.
The church’s origins date back to 1145. As early as 1210, the ossuary was converted to house bones from the local cemetery.
King John V of Portugal was impressed by this chapel in 1738 and had a similar one built in รvora, near Lisbon.
We arrive at the San Siro Stadium for the match.
Before that, we head to the Al Meazza Restaurant near the stadium, where there’s a fiery atmosphere (smoke bombs outside).
For me, it’s “Pasta alla arrabiata.”
Italian football stadiums are the best in the world for street food, where you can enjoy typical Italian local specialties before, during, and after matches.
In Milan, the specialty is the panino alla salsiccia con cipolla e peperoni (Italian sausage sandwich with onions and peppers), also known as “Salamella.”
Have you ever tried it?
A crazy, electric atmosphere tonight at the Stadio San Siro, with the Champions League anthem ringing through the stadium and the Milan Ultras chanting “Alle Milan, Forza Lotta vincerai.”
AC Milan won the quarter-final second leg against Napoli 1-0 and advanced to the semi-final.
Ismaรซl Bennacer scored in the 40th minute.
We had a magnificent Tifo, but as a result, I wasn’t able to take a photo.
