Back in Venice after visiting the islands of the Lagoon: Murano, Burano, Torcello, and Mazzorbo.
Night tour of the city, the Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Square, and the Caffè Florian (the second oldest existing café in the world, dating back to 1720).
We then returned on foot (no choice!), passing through the narrow streets and canals, to our Hotel Nazionale.
The rest of the visit, in the alleys we find many Venetian flags, shops selling porchetta and local cheeses, many artistic windows (Murano glass sculptures).
Not far from the hotel is the Cannaregio district, home to the Jewish Ghetto of Venice.
Created in 1516, it is the oldest ghetto in the world.
The gates were closed at night until Napoleon’s arrival in 1797.
