Bender (Pridnestrovie, Moldova)

Visit to Bender in Pridnestrovie (called Transnistria in Moldova).

A view from the Chișinău highway over the forest of tall, modern residential towers in the Botanica district. The Dansicons and Gudrinal signs, symbols of the Moldovan capital’s boom, can be seen.

We will visit Bender and Tiraspol, in Pridnestrovie (called “Transnistria” in Moldova), a self-proclaimed state since 1992 (not recognized by the UN, only by Abkhazia and South Ossetia).
It can be considered the “Last Bastion of the Soviet Union (USSR). There are a huge number of statues and monuments dating from the Soviet era, and the atmosphere is truly unique and authentically Soviet!
There’s a real land border with passport control when you come from Moldova.
I’ll show you a photo of the local currency, a Pridnestrovian/Transnistrian ruble.
We went there thanks to an organized excursion. More information in the comments!

Just arrived in Bender in Pridnestrovie, we made our first stop and visited the small and magnificent Russian Orthodox Church of Saints Joachim and Anne.

Head to the Bender-Tighina Fortress, located on the Dniester River in Bessarabia.
We first visit the Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Church, built in the 19th century.

This is the exterior of the Bender-Tighina Fortress, conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1538 and subsequently improved and built from 1538 by the Ottoman Empire.
The fortress became Russian after the Russo-Turkish War.

Continuing the visit to the Bender – Tighina Fortress, I show you some photos of the Museum inside,
then the magnificent view from the heights of the Fort.

The I Love Bender sculpture inside Alexander Nevsky Park and Bender Fortress (Tighina).

Next stop is the Military Glory Memorial Park (Парк Славы, sometimes also called Мемориал Славы в Бендерах), which pays tribute to the soldiers who fell in several conflicts, most notably the Dniester War in 1992.
It features an eternal flame, the White Monument (Колокол Памяти / Memorial Bell), and a tank with the inscription PMR / ПМР (“Dniester Moldavian Republic”), as well as the flag of Pridnestrovie (called Transnistria in Moldova).
