🇲🇩 Old Orhei and Cricova Winery

Departure this morning towards Orhei, we pass in front of the impressive “Chișinău State Circus” and we even pass in front of a plane wreck at the side of the road!

Breakfast break at Marcu Bakery in Peresecina. Beautiful decor (it’s Easter time) and delicious plăcintă, a traditional Romanian, Moldovan, and Ukrainian pastry.

We visit the Orthodox Monastery of Curchi, certainly one of the most beautiful in Moldova, nestled in a green setting.

We’re heading towards the Orheiul Vechi region, where the Tatars settled in the early 14th century.
Here are some photos of the traditional houses.

We visit the sanctuary in Old Ohrei and enjoy the magnificent scenery and views of the Old Cross.
Tour organized by our guide Ecaterina and Moldova Tours.

Delicious lunch at Old Ohrei, only traditional Moldovan specialties, Cighiri meatballs and Pelmeni.

We’re going to visit the Cricova Wine Cellars, a veritable underground city with over 120km of galleries, boulevards, streets, and traffic lights. We’ll travel by electric cart!
Founded in 1952, there are now over 1.3 million bottles of sparkling and classic wines, some of which are very old.

Continuation of the visit to the Cricova Wine Cellars, a veritable underground city with more than 120km of underground galleries.

Upon arriving at the tasting party, you will find more magnificent rooms: the conference room, the “Casa Mare”, the “fond de la mer”.
Luckily, we had the opportunity to enjoy the tasting in the most beautiful room.
We even found an Orthodox chapel underground!

Back from Cricova, we’ll visit the imposing Vladimir Lenin Monument in Yango (no Uber here), near Lake Valea Morilor, where we can see a very pretty (very small !) statue of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince.
We then climb the magnificent Cascade Stairs to the Rotonda for a magnificent view of the surrounding area.

We pass the MNEIN, the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova.
Built in the 19th century, the style is very clearly Persian-Oriental.
Unfortunately, we arrive late and it’s closed.

Tonight, we had a super nice restaurant, “La Șezătoare,” in Chisinau, Moldova.
Traditional decor, local Moldovan specialties—nothing to complain about, everything was perfect.
We also enjoyed a Romanian Timisoreana beer (from Timisoara) and Moldovan Fetaasca Neagra Saperavi red wine, but as usual, be careful, as alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health.
