🇲🇩 Chisinau (Moldova)

This morning we depart from Frankfurt Airport in Germany for Chișinău in Moldova, the former Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic during the USSR era.

 

Arriving at Chișinău Airport in Moldova, our driver awaits us (transfer arranged by the T.A. Collection Hotel).
A complete change of scenery upon arrival, we see numerous Soviet buildings, an old “Moldova” plane, and even the bus of the city’s football team, FC Zimbru !

 

We arrive at the T.A. Collection Hotel, a wonderful welcome and a great room!
We go straight to the ATM to get some money and have a drink in the square next to the hotel.

 

In the heart of Chișinău, the former “Național” hotel, now abandoned, in the colors of the Moldovan flag: blue, yellow, red.

 

We are exploring the capital city of Chisinau on foot. Not far from our hotel, we see the statue of Soviet soldier Grigory Kotovsky in front of the imposing Cosmos Hotel.

 

We are visiting the magnificent Orthofox Mănăstirea Ciuflea Cathedral (Catedrala Episcopala Sf. Teaodor Tiron).
We are not far from the old Moldova hotel.

 

And now, the Monument to the Deported, in tribute to the victims of deportations by the communist regime, thousands of Moldovans deported to Siberia and Kazakhstan between 1940 and 1951.
