Another day in Madrid, we’re going to visit Retiro Park. I was there in 2018, but I had much less time.
We start with the Palacio de Velázquez, a neo-Mudejar building.

We visit the magnificent Crystal Palace in Retiro Park.
It’s made entirely of glass and metal, built in 1887 for an exhibition on the flora and fauna of the Philippines.
A must-see if you’re in Madrid, especially if the weather is nice!

Relaxing afternoon at the Grand Bassin in Retiro Park in Madrid, in front of the monument to Alfonso XII.

Take a break at Zoko Retiro in Madrid. On testing the Tacos aux crevettes, délicieux!
Avenida Menéndez Pelayo 27, Madrid, Spain 28009

We’ll visit the old Madrid-Atocha Station, a masterpiece of 19th-century railway architecture.
Unfortunately, it’s known as the site of the 2004 terrorist attacks in Spain.
But since 1992, the former train hall has housed a huge 4,000m² garden (tropical greenhouse) containing 7,000 trees and plants, including palm trees, ficus trees, banana trees, coffee trees, and even Asian carnivorous plants.

It’s almost time to return, we’re enjoying the last shrimp croquettes (croqueta de grietas) and Sangria (Warning: alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health) at the Novotel Madrid Center.
