We visit Maison Cailler in Broc (Canton of Fribourg) in Switzerland, in the heart of Gruyère.
The famous chocolate factory was founded in 1819 and is now part of the Nestlé Group.
In the heart of Gruyère, the famous chocolate factory was founded in 1819.
We start by seeing the Nestlé-Peter-Cailler transport wagons, the impressive manor house, the boutique, and the wall of colorful chocolate bars.
I’m including some photos of the museum; you can learn more about the origins of chocolate in Switzerland; it’s very informative.
And above all, the magnificent cascade of melted chocolate and the chocolate heart weighing several kilograms in the tasting room! https://www.instagram.com/p/DP1Y2YmjE1U/
During the museum tour, you can actually see a real industrial chocolate production line in operation.
Each stage of production is detailed (we remain behind protective glass, of course): selecting and mixing the cocoa beans, coating the pralines, conveyor belt, packaging…
And at the end of the line, I was able to taste the chocolates directly from the conveyor belt; they’re 100% fresh.
Now for the most anticipated moment of the visit: the Maison Cailler Tasting Room.
A huge room, beautifully presented, and a large number of different chocolates to taste. So good I forgot to take any pictures (apart from one of the platters).
