Tignale (Lake Garda)

Located on the left bank of Lake Garda (Province of Brescia in Lombardy), high up, Tignale offers magnificent viewpoints, numerous hiking trails, streams and waterfalls, beautiful Italian villages to visit, and local culinary specialties.
Tignale is made up of several small, pleasant villages to visit:

  • Gardola: The historic center with its church, shops, and restaurants
  • Aer: Small, quiet village (I’m staying here, and you can access the Tignale waterfall)
  • Olzano
  • Oldesio
  • Piovere
  • Prabione

What to do in Tignale?

Gardola is the perfect example of an Italian village to spend quality time in, with its central square, its narrow streets…
For shopping, I recommend the Conad supermarket, to buy bread, drinks, and local dishes. There are also wild trails.

Il Santuario di Montecastello
A steep climb on foot (or by car) and you’ll see the magnificent Sanctuary of Montesscatello, and above all, a magnificent view of the region if you continue walking a little further.

Tignale Waterfall
A magnificent waterfall with the possibility of swimming after a long hike. Accessible from “Residence Casa Silvana” via Aer, it requires good physical condition and very good hiking boots!

Limonaia Pra dela Fam
Discover the local history of lemon cultivation and an exceptional natural setting.

Pra de la Fam Beach
Tignale is located in a hilly area but boasts its own private beach on the lake, a small, wild and sunny cove popular with swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. You can easily get there by bus from Tignale, especially if you have the “Tignale Card” that’s usually offered as soon as you book accommodation here.

Where to eat in Tignale?

Here are some restaurants I enjoyed here. Ristorante Il Calderone
Via Trento 1, Tignale, 25080 Brescia
This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area, especially for seafood dishes.

Pizzeria Al Torchio
Very good pizzas and homemade wine (Warning: alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health).

Osteria La Miniera
A very pleasant setting next to the church, with a beautiful interior and a shaded exterior.

Jack el Moro Pizza-Winery
Also very good pizzas

Panorama Al fil
A café with a magnificent view of the lake

Macelleria Moschini
This is the village butcher shop. I highly recommend booking a “Spiedo Tignalese” (spiedini bresciani, only on Sundays), a typical Sunday dish for the locals: meat cooked over a wood fire (pork, veal, chicken, rabbit, etc.) served with polenta, Tignale extra virgin olive oil, herbs, and potatoes. Delicious.
