Moldova is known for its vineyards, especially the “Underground City” of Cricova, which contains over 120 km of tunnels carved into the limestone, vineyards, and tens of thousands of bottles of Moldovan wine, some of which are extremely rare. It’s possible to visit the underground cellars on an electric train; there’s everything underground: roads, traffic lights, signs, wine barrels, and even a mini-cinema retracing Moldovan winemaking history and an Orthodox chapel.
For those who wish, it’s possible (be careful, as alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health) to participate in a wine tasting in one of the magnificent tasting rooms: the Presidential Hall, the Maritime Hall, etc.
For the tour, we booked a day trip with Ecaterina and Moldova Tours (Old Orhei + Cricova). Here’s my referral link*: GetYourGuide.
