Madrid

Madrid is the capital of Spain and blends culture, gastronomy, history, modernity, and fiesta.
I was there twice, and here are the different places I visited.
No photos of the stadium, however, as it was under construction…

Plaza Mayor
The large square lined with arcades.

Puerta del Sol
The very, very lively square in Madrid day and night.

Palacio Real
The official (but unoccupied) residence of the King of Spain.

Le Marché de San Miguel
My favorite place, a great place to enjoy seafood, tapas and local products.

Rooftop Bar 360°
At the top of the Hotel Riu Plaza España, Plaza de España
Great view of the entire city, great atmosphere, and there’s also a glass walkway you can walk on, more than 100 meters above the void.

The Temple of Debod
An Egyptian temple built in Madrid two millennia ago.

Retiro Park
A huge green space in the middle of the city, there is also a lake where you can sail with a boat, and the Crystal Palace.

The tropical greenhouse at Madrid-Atocha Station
A masterpiece of 19th-century railway architecture.
Since 1992, the former train hall has housed a vast 4,000m² garden (tropical greenhouse) containing 7,000 trees and plants, including palm trees, ficus trees, banana trees, coffee trees, and even Asian carnivorous plants.

GetYourGuide activities

Many activities can be booked on GYG, such as participating in a flamenco show, or even visiting other cities around Madrid such as Avila, Segovia, Toledo…

Lunch / drink

Zoko Retiro
Avenida Menéndez Pelayo 27, Madrid, Spain 28009
Delicious shrimp tapas and tacos.

Jardín Salvador Bachiller, In the heart of the upscale Salamanca neighborhood, off Calle de Goya, you’ll find a peaceful haven of greenery and art, where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in a timeless space in Madrid.
Magnificent decorations: hanging flowers, a tunnel of purple LED lights and mirrors, oriental lanterns, vintage wrought iron furniture…

It is also an opportunity in Madrid to try many Argentine, Venezuelan, Peruvian (Inca) specialties…

Tips

Be careful if you come in summer, it is very hot, choose spring and autumn.
