We’ll leave Madrid early and take a day trip (by bus) to visit the medieval fortified city of Ávila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our first stop is at the Mirador de los Cuatro Postes (Mirador de los Cuatro Postes, a monument dating from 1566), for a magnificent panoramic view of the Castilian countryside around Ávila, including the city walls and ramparts.

We made this trip by organized bus from Madrid via GYG (my sponsorship link: https://gyg.me/2K81BMJ1)

We walk along the Walls of Avila (about 3 km long) to the Puerta de San Vicente (Saint Vincent Gate) and Plaza de Santa Teresa.

Now here is the Gothic Cathedral of Avila, and the Church of San Vicente de Avila.

Lunch at the Taberna Restaurante las Murallas in Avila.
We tried the local specialties and traditional tapas, such as cocido soup and morcilla as a starter, followed by a delicious Chuletón de Ávila steak (Avila-Negra Iberica breed, originally from Castile).
The restaurant’s decor is magnificent, with rustic decor featuring hanging Iberian hams, wooden beams, and a warm and traditional atmosphere.
