Saturday 25 April 2026, a royal day in Denmark. In the morning we watch the changing of the Royal Guard at Amalienborg Palace, home of the Danish royal family in Copenhagen.
The changing of the Royal Guard at Amalienborg
Every day at noon, the Royal Guard, with its famous bearskin hats, marches from its barracks near Rosenborg Castle to Amalienborg for the changing of the guard. The four palaces surround a large octagonal square, and you can follow the ceremony freely from the sides.
Frederiksborg Castle and its fountains
In the afternoon we head to Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, north of Copenhagen. This large red-brick Renaissance castle, built on three islets in the middle of a lake, is one of the most beautiful in the country. The gardens and their fountains alone are worth the trip.
And for a smile, Denmark upside down and sped up.
