Sunday 8 March 2026, the big day: the Milan derby, AC Milan against Inter, the “Derby della Madonnina”. Breakfast at the Grand Hotel Barone di Sassj in Sesto San Giovanni, then off to the centre under a big blue sky.
AC Milan store, octopus and the Navigli
First stop at the AC Milan flagship store on Via Dante, already in derby mode. Lunch at Rossomodoro with Neapolitan-style octopus on the terrace, then a stroll in the Navigli district, for me the most beautiful place in Milan after the Duomo and the stadium. That day it’s almost warm.
Arco della Pace and the RAI Tower
We then walk up to the Arco della Pace, the neoclassical triumphal arch at the end of Parco Sempione, and make a detour along Corso Sempione for the Torre della RAI, a piece of Italian TV history with a slightly industrial look. Along the way, Winter Games activities let families try curling or snowboarding.
The derby at San Siro
Around San Siro, thousands of scarves and dozens of stalls. Inside, a giant tifo in the Curva Sud, flares and the songs of the Rossoneri ultras, surely among the best in Italy. And at the end, joy: AC Milan win 1-0 thanks to a goal from Pervis Estupiñán.
On the way out we admire the San Siro towers, the big cylindrical ramps built for the 1990 World Cup, before ending the evening at Al Meazza with lasagne and cotoletta, then a panino with sausage, onions and peppers at 11 pm. Far too much food, but what a weekend.
