Tokyo was the last stop of my Japan trip in September 2024: three days going from peaceful shrines to the busiest crossings in the world. A city where you are never bored.

What to see in Tokyo

  • Akihabara, the electronics district: giant stores, arcades and geek culture.
  • Meiji-jingu shrine, a calm break in the forest.
  • Shinjuku and Shibuya by night, then the famous Shibuya Crossing and the Hachiko statue by day.
  • Shibuya Parco, with the Nintendo Store and the Pokémon Center.
  • Skytree and Tokyo Tower for the city from above.
  • teamLab Borderless, an immersive digital art museum: stunning.
  • Hama-Rikyu garden, between skyscrapers and a tea house.

Where to eat in Tokyo

  • Ultra-fresh sushi, with fish you cannot find in Europe.
  • Konbini for a quick meal at any time.

Practical info

  • The metro and trains connect everything, but transfers take some getting used to.
  • Book teamLab Borderless in advance.
  • Come after Kamakura and Hakone to end the trip on a high.
