Blick auf den Comer See vom Leuchtturm Voltiano in Brunate

🇮🇹 Lake Como - Brunate, the Voltiano lighthouse and a boat trip

1 min read

Saturday 23 May 2026, a day at Lake Como, less than an hour from Milan. We start in Brunate, the village perched above Como, with breakfast overlooking the lake.

The view from the Voltiano lighthouse

In Brunate we climb the Faro Voltiano, the lighthouse built in honour of Alessandro Volta, inventor of the battery, who was born in Como. From the top, the view of the lake, the town and the Alps is stunning.

A boat trip on the lake

In the afternoon, a trip of about 1 h 30 on the lake in a shared private boat, ten people on board. Villas, colourful villages by the water and mountains dropping into the lake: gorgeous. We paid around 42 euros each, on offer.

Grigliata di pesce in Sesto San Giovanni

In the evening, back to Sesto San Giovanni, at Al Sesto Gusto: a pizza, then a grigliata di pesce, mixed grilled fish, one of my favourite dishes.

Practical info

  • Como: about 40 minutes by train from Milan.
  • Brunate: funicular from central Como, then the Voltiano lighthouse on foot.
