Sunday 24 May 2026, our last big day in Milan. Just after midnight, a short walk among the street art of Sesto San Giovanni, then in the morning we head for the centre.
The Highline on the Galleria rooftops
We do the Highline, the walkway on the rooftops of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. A view down onto Piazza del Duomo and the cathedral’s spires and, in the distance, the CityLife skyscrapers. Not for those with vertigo, but the view is exceptional.
CityLife, the UniCredit Tower and Bosco Verticale
Milan has its New York side too: the CityLife towers, the UniCredit Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Italy, and the Bosco Verticale, the two tree-covered buildings in the Porta Nuova district.
Milan - Cagliari in the Curva Sud
In the afternoon, back to San Siro for Milan - Cagliari, this time in the Curva Sud among the Rossoneri ultras. The atmosphere is as crazy as ever, and the stadium towers as impressive.
Da Nonna and the culurgiones at Osteria Ippodromo
Food-wise, a great find near the stadium in the Lotto district: Da Nonna, a restaurant with quirky decor dedicated to Italian grandmothers, serving dishes from Apulia. I had orecchiette con cime di rapa, the Apulian nonna’s classic. And at Osteria Ippodromo, also near San Siro, culurgiones, Sardinian ravioli shaped like ears of wheat.
