🇫🇷 Corsica - Bonifacio, the Gouvernail de la Corse and a boat trip

1 min read

Tuesday 5 May 2026, heading south. We drive down the coast to Bonifacio, right at the tip of Corsica, perched on its white limestone cliffs. On the way, a first stunning viewpoint over the sea, with Sardinia on the horizon.

The Gouvernail de la Corse bunker

First visit: the Gouvernail de la Corse bunker, a former military post dug into the cliff. The viewing platform sits about ten metres above the sea, and the view is impressive: the cliffs, the turquoise water and, on a clear day, Sardinia right across the strait.

A boat trip below the cliffs

We finish with a boat trip from the harbour. We sail along the cliffs, the rocks carved by the sea and the caves, in incredibly clear water. Nice surprise: we bought the tickets on the spot at the harbour, barely five minutes before departure. For me it’s the best way to discover Bonifacio.

Practical info

  • Bonifacio: about 1 h 45 by road from Ghisonaccia, along the east coast.
  • Gouvernail de la Corse bunker: reached on foot, wear good shoes.
  • Boat trips: regular departures from the harbour, tickets sold on the quays.
  • On a clear day you can see Sardinia, about twelve kilometres away.
